Semifinalist Communities for GU Energy Prize (GUEP) in Northern California: Berkeley, Davis, Fremont, Palo Alto, San Mateo, and Sunnyvale

Georgetown University
Dear Northern California Hoyas,

The Georgetown University Energy Prize (GUEP) is a $5 million prize designed to tap the imagination, creativity and spirit of competition among communities across the country to save energy.

We’re e-mailing you to let you know that the following communities in your region have advanced to the semifinalist round of the competition: Berkeley, Davis, Fremont, Palo Alto, San Mateo, and Sunnyvale, California.

We would be delighted to have your help in spreading the word about this initiative, which strives to connect Georgetown University with communities in your region.

A little more information about the Energy Prize:

Since its launch in April, 2014, the multi-year Georgetown University Energy Prize has already supported nearly 100 communities in energy-efficiency planning; has brought together federal agencies, global NGOs, and major corporations with community leaders in small to mid-sized municipalities from across America to plan new approaches to energy efficiency; and is supporting the development of replicable new approaches to community-wide energy efficiency.

PARTICIPATING COMMUNITIES
Participating Communities
Ultimately, a winning community will be selected based on energy-saving performance, innovation of approach, quality of outreach, sustainability and replicability.

Combined, the participating communities have the potential save more than $1 billion in energy costs, cut hundreds of millions of tons of CO2 emissions and develop new models for energy conservation that can be replicated in communities across the country.

Interested? Here is how you can help:

  1. Spread the word – Inform others about the Energy Prize and the involvement of communities in your area. Click here to view some sample social media messages that you can use.
  2. Get Involved – If you want to know more about the Energy Prize, fill out this short survey to get involved with communities in your region.
  3. Engage – If you want to get more involved with local Energy Prize program, please e-mail us at energyprize@georgetown.edu or leave a message at 202-687-5286.
  4. If you work in the environmental sector, consider joining fellow GU Green Hoyas on LinkedIn.
