Georgetown Kickball Team

That's right... a kickball team. We're looking for fleet-footed and fun-loving Hoyas to join the team - a great way to meet people, socialize, and get some, um, exercise. Although it will be a Georgetown alumni based team, everyone is welcome. We encourage you to ask co-workers, friends, and significant others to join the team too!

Details... We'll be doing this through The Golden Gate Sport and Social Club which organizes a variety of intramural sport leagues throughout the City. The season will begin Sunday, January 11th, 2009. Games take place on Sunday and will occur between noon and 3pm at Fort Scott Field in the Presidio.

Cost will vary depending on the number of people who join. 25 people on the team = $25 per person.

We will be taking sign ups and collecting team dues at the Bus Stop during the Georgetown-Memphis game watch. Otherwise, contact Robin Rector robin.n.rector@gmail.com or Chris Katsaros cmkatsaros@gmail.com if you're interested in playing or want more information!

The Club recently conducted a survey of members to see what type of volunteer activities you might be interested in. Well you spoke and we listened! So please do consider taking a few hours out of your weekend to give back a little and meet some new people and have some fun in the process. A Club member brought us this next activity. We'll be helping Boys Hope Girls Hope, a privately-funded nonprofit, which runs a residential home that is in need of repainting. The home is for academically capable yet at-risk youth and currently houses 10 boys who benefit from the academic focus and environment.

The agency just received a donation of paint and now they just need volunteers (at least 15!). For those of you who have painted before, you'll know that this job also entails some sanding and prep work. If you are free, please join us Sunday, October 26th at 11:30 a.m. to spruce up the house! The more people who help the less time this project will take! Come help out and hang out with your fellow Hoyas!

Street parking is available. Public Transportation: the 24 and the 48 run near the house and the J line at 24th and Church is about five blocks away.

Boys Hope Girls Hope helps academically capable and motivated children-in-need to meet their full potential and become men and women for others by providing value centered, family like homes, opportunities and education through college. For more information about the SF Chapter of Boys Hope, please visit http://www.bhghsf.org/home.html.

Healy, S.J. Award honoring alumni humanitarian service.

Where: Mendocino Room at The Palace Hotel - 2 New Montgomery Street, corner with Market - map
Cost: Free - Your membership dues at work.
Please drop us an email if you plan on attending so we can plan appropriately.

The Georgetown Alumni Club of Northern California is excited to have Professor Francis Slakey, the Upjohn Lecturer in Physics and Biology and the co-Director of the Program on Science in the Public Interest at Georgetown University visiting us here in San Francisco.

As a courtesy to
local alumni, Professor Slakey will be giving a lecture
regarding his work getting Georgetown Students' ideas in front of Congress in his discussion, Mission Possible: Why President Bush Signed Georgetown Students' Ideas into Law. This discussion will delve into the reality that it's more likely that a high school baseball player will become a professional, than a bill will become law. With such odds against them, how were Georgetown science students able to get President Bush to sign their ideas into law? Professor Slakey will discuss how such students were able to identify a social problem, develop a political solution, and ultimately lobby Congress where they were able to put their scientific training into practice.

We are looking forward to hearing Professor Slakey's thoughts on this timely issue. Please join us. Light refreshments will be provided.

Georgetown Women's Leadership Initiative Semi-Annual Distinguished Speaker Panel, in conjunction with The Financial Women’s Association & The Georgetown University Alumni Association, presents"Building & Cultivating a Successful Network" Inspiring, developing, and connecting women… Semi-Annual Distinguished Speaker Panel presented in conjunction with The Financial Women’s Association and The Georgetown University Alumni Association

Cultivate your Network before you need it! Formal and informal networks are critical to career success. They provide access to information, informal knowledge, and connections to opportunities. However, not everyone is equally adept at building their personal networks. Moreover, research shows that women’s organizational networks tend to be more sparse and marginalized than those of men. The most obvious choices for network building are not always the smartest, whereas sometimes the least apparently promising connections can prove to be quite fruitful. Come join us for an evening of advice about building and maintaining your personal network to maximize opportunities and success.

Speakers include:
Doreen Woo Ho, President, Wells Fargo Consumer Credit Group
Hendy Dayton, Business Development Director, YourOnRamp
Ann Marie Lynch (C'95), Wells Fargo
Moderated by Dr. Catherine Tinsley, Associate Professor, McDonough School of Business and Executive Director, Georgetown University Women’s Leadership Initiative

250 Hoya fans were in attendance for the Jeff Green / Warriors event. A brief synopsis:

Besides tailgating in the parking lot, we distributed some custom Georgetown Club of Northern California t-shirts. Once in the arena, we were ushered to a special private bar where Hoyas mingled. The Warriors then raffled autographed gear and we headed down to the court.
We got to sit courtside for about 45 minutes while Jeff warmed up. We were pretty quiet at first, then we dropped a huge "Hoya Saxa" cheer on him that caused him to laugh and join in. Then, Jeff came over into the Hoya crowd and hung out for 20-30 minutes signing autographs, taking pictures and just generally being awesome.
Then he put together a great game scoring a season high number of points (all for us). It was AMAZING. Big, big shout out to Jeff for being so nice and showing Georgetown some love. He really made us proud to be Hoyas on so many levels. Click on Jeff's smiling face for the pictures.

Jeff Green / Warriors Event Details

Event | Tuesday, February 26 | Warriors vs. Sonics (and Jeff Green)

First Annual Hoya Alumni Event with the Golden State Warriors!
February 26, 2008, 7:30 PM
ORACLE Arena - Oakland

Please join us as we welcome former GU Hoops star Jeff Green to the Bay Area as he and his Seattle Sonics come to town to play the Warriors. Through a special arrangement with the Warriors, you'll be treated to a once-in-a-lifetime event you won’t want to miss. We’ll start off the evening with a pre-game mixer so alums can network and catch up in the arena’s newly renovated Club 200 lounge. We’ll then be escorted down to courtside to watch Jeff up close during the pre-game shoot around and warm ups. Finally, we’ll gather in our group seats right by mid-court (section 230) to watch the game.

We have 230+ people coming and unfortunately tickets are sold out.
Are you one of the lucky few who will be attending? Click here for all the details
