Annual Hoya New Year Extravaganza 2016!

Come celebrate the start of 2016 with some joyous Hoya spirit at our favorite social event of the year, the ANNUAL HOYA NEW YEAR EXTRAVAGANZA!

WHEN: Friday, January 8, 2016 from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM (PST)
WHERE: Bartlett Hall -- 242 O'Farrell Street San Francisco, CA 94102

We hope you'll join us for the 2016 Hoya New Year Extravaganza at our new location, Hoya-owned Barlett Hall! Situated amid the hustle and bustle of San Francisco’s Union Square, Bartlett Hall is a gastropub and brewery that fuses the city’s historic elements with its present day lively personalities.

We had more than 80 Hoyas attend our 2015 Extravaganza, and we're hoping for an even greater crowd this year!

Note: If you want a $10 discount on your ticket, make sure you're a Club member! We'll email you a discount code. If you haven't gotten a discount code yet, please forward your new membership confirmation email to norcalhoyas@gmail.com.

Advance tickets are $45 (or $35 for Club members with discount code) and include three drink tickets good for Bartlett Hall's excellent selection of draft beers, house wines and craft cocktails, chances to win great raffle prizes, and plentiful delicious hors d'oeuvres. Tickets will also be available at the door for $55 (cash only).

Also, in keeping with the giving spirit of the holidays, please consider bringing a new blanket, book, or stuffed animal to donate to Project Night Night for an additional raffle ticket at the door! G.U. grad, Kendra Stitt Robins (College '94, M.A. '95 and Law '00) founded the nonprofit organization Project Night Night. Project Night Night donates over 25,000 Night Night Packages each year to homeless children 12 and under who need childhood essentials to have a concrete and predictable source of security and an increased exposure to high-quality literacy materials during their time of upheaval.

Hoyas Go for a Pre-Turkey Day Hike in the Marin Headlands

Want to get out and stretch those legs and work off some extra calories before Thanksgiving? Want to see the beautiful headlands with your fellow Hoyas? Join the Georgetown Club of Northern California on a hike on Saturday, November for a family and pet friendly hike in the Marin headlands (details of hike below). The plan is for an approximately 4.5 mile loop through the headlands on the famous Coastal and Miwok trails. The hike itself should last about 2.5 hours of hiking time and we are planning on taking a 1/2 hour picnic lunch break. An e-mail with the cell phone numbers of the trip leaders along with a weather contingency plan will be sent to all the RSVPs prior to the hike. Looking forward to seeing all the fellow Hoyas in the great outdoors!

The Hike
Take Old Bunker Road up to the Coastal Trail. Then onto the Wolf’s ridge trail to the Miwok trail. Then take Miwok trail back down to the Lagoon trail and back to the parking lot. Round trip @ 4.5 miles. We are doing a slightly shorter version of the trail described in this link that avoids the damaged coastal trail section and will start out as an easier warm up going up the paved Old Bunker Road. http://bahiker.com/northbayhikes/rodeobeach.html

A Few Thoughts / What to Bring
  • This hike, while not exceptionally strenuous, does have a significant amount of ascending and descending, please be prepared and know your limits.
  • The trail is in good condition but be sure to wear appropriate footwear (i.e. sneakers / hiking boots, NO flip flops)
  • The weather can change rapidly in the headlands and a sunny day can turn cold and foggy very quickly. Dress in layers, avoid cotton, and bring extra clothes
  • Plan on bringing a picnic lunch and plenty of water.
  • Children are absolutely welcome but be sure they are up for a full 3 hour adventure
  • Dogs are welcome too but per Golden Gate National Park Rules they need to be on leash at all times
  • E-mail any questions or concerns, we'd prefer to address anything prior to getting on the trail.
Meeting Location
Meet at the Old Bunker Road Gate at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 21st. There is a parking lot near the Marine Mammal Center at Fort Cronkite. See map below.
